Door stuck? Don't force it
A garage door that suddenly won't open, slams shut or hangs crooked is usually telling you that a part holding its weight has failed. Pushing it, pulling it or running the opener over and over can make the damage worse and can hurt someone.
Most garage doors are lifted by springs, not by the opener. The springs carry the door's weight, and the opener just guides it. When a spring or cable breaks, that weight is suddenly unsupported. HomeAdvisor warns that opening a door by hand with a broken spring is unsafe, because it can move without warning.
What to do right now
- Stop using the opener. Repeated attempts can strain the motor and bend parts.
- Keep kids, pets and cars out of the door's path.
- If the door is open and crooked, leave it where it is. Don't try to drop it closed.
- Don't touch springs, cables or the bottom brackets. They hold a lot of tension.
- Note what you saw and heard (a loud bang, a cable hanging loose, a door off its track). It helps the pro come prepared.
DASMA, the door industry's trade group, says spring systems should be repaired only by trained professionals, and that the bottom brackets are under extreme tension. That's why we match you with licensed companies instead of pointing you to a how-to video. Learn more about broken garage door spring repair.

What does garage door repair cost?
Here's a quick look at typical ranges from published cost guides. They're a starting point, not a quote. The companies you're matched with set the actual price after seeing your door.
| Job | Typical range | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Spring replacement (Phoenix) | $155 to $362, average about $258 | Angi, 2026 |
| General garage door repair (U.S.) | $155 to $379, average about $265 | HomeAdvisor, 2026 |
| Opener repair (U.S.) | $124 to $370, average about $236 | HomeAdvisor, 2026 |
| New opener installed (U.S.) | $218 to $540, average about $379 | HomeAdvisor, 2026 |
| Cable repair or replacement (U.S.) | $100 to $400 | HomeAdvisor, 2026 |
| Panel replacement (Phoenix) | $260 to $900 per panel | Angi, 2026 |
| New garage door installed (U.S.) | $1,500 to $6,000, average about $2,500 | Bob Vila |
Ranges are typical figures published by the sources listed below. Your price depends on your door, parts and timing.
Prices swing based on the door's size and weight, the parts needed, whether both springs are replaced, and whether you need help after hours. For a full breakdown with red flags to watch for in quotes, read our garage door repair cost guide.
How Garage Door Repair Connect works
You've already seen the three steps at the top of this page. In short: you send one request, we pass it to up to 5 licensed, independent companies that serve your ZIP code, and they may contact you directly by phone, text or email. We ask companies to respond promptly, but each one sets its own schedule, so tell us in the form if your situation is urgent.

Why homeowners use a matching service
Describe the problem once, pay us nothing, and stay in control of who you hire.
- One request instead of calling around. Describe the problem once and local companies follow up.
- Licensed companies only. We only send requests to companies that give us an active Arizona ROC license number and proof of liability insurance.
- No cost, no obligation. You only pay the company if you choose to hire it.
- You stay in control. You talk to each company directly, compare quotes and decide on your own timeline.
| Worried about... | The short answer |
|---|---|
| Cost | Free for homeowners. You only pay the company if you hire it. |
| Commitment | None. Hear the quotes, then decide. |
| Speed | We send your request right away and ask companies to respond promptly. Exact timing is up to the company. |
| Spam calls | Up to 5 matched companies, never an open list. Tell any of them to stop, or reply STOP to end texts. |
| Who does the work | An independent, licensed, insured local company, not us. |
Always confirm a company's license before work starts. In Arizona, you can look up any contractor with the Registrar of Contractors. The ROC says a license is generally required when labor and materials exceed $1,000 or when a permit is needed.

About Garage Door Repair Connect
We're a new service, launching in the Phoenix metro in 2026. Here's exactly how we work, so you can judge us on facts rather than slogans.
What we are
A free referral and matching service. We don't repair doors, employ technicians, set prices or offer warranties. We pass your request to up to 5 independent garage door companies that serve your area, and the one you hire does the work.
How companies qualify
- An active Arizona Registrar of Contractors license number for the work, given to us before receiving requests
- Proof of general liability insurance
- Agreement to respond to homeowners promptly and give written quotes
- A service area that covers the homeowner's ZIP code
Each participating company that receives your request pays us a fee. That keeps the service free for you, and you never have to hire anyone. It's also why we ask you to check the license yourself on the ROC website before work begins.
Where our information comes from
Cost ranges come from published guides such as Angi and HomeAdvisor. Safety advice comes from DASMA, the door industry's trade group, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Each page lists its sources at the bottom with a last-updated date. We don't publish reviews, ratings or customer counts: as a new service, we don't have any yet.
Garage door repair in Phoenix and nearby cities
We're launching in the Valley first and expanding to more cities over time.
Phoenix-area garage doors take a beating. Triple-digit heat dries out lubricants and bakes rubber seals. The monsoon, which the National Weather Service defines as June 15 to September 30, adds wind, sudden rain and haboobs, the walls of dust that roll across the Valley. The result: noisy rollers, cracked bottom seals, misaligned tracks and safety sensors that act up.
Today we match homeowners in Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Goodyear, Buckeye, Queen Creek and San Tan Valley. Phoenix alone has 15 urban villages, from Ahwatukee Foothills to North Gateway; see Phoenix garage door repair by village, with costs and safety tips. Or pick your city on our garage door repair locations page.
Should you repair or replace your garage door?
Repair your garage door when a single part has failed, like a spring, cable, roller or opener; those fixes typically cost a few hundred dollars. Replace it when several panels are damaged or the door needs many major parts at once, since a new installed door averages about $2,500 nationally, per Bob Vila.
Springs, cables, rollers, openers and seals all wear out and can be swapped. A new door starts to make sense when:
- Panels are badly damaged
- The door is very old and needs several major parts at once
- You want better insulation or a new look
Angi's Phoenix panel guide offers a rule of thumb: if more than two panels need replacing, a new door may be the better value. A licensed pro can look at your door and tell you which way to go. Leaning toward a new door? Start with garage door installation.
Not sure if it's a repair or a new door? Get matched and let a licensed pro take a look.

Garage door repair FAQs
Is a garage door that won't close an emergency?
It can be. A door stuck open leaves your home and garage unsecured, and a door that slammed shut may have a broken spring or cable. Either way, stop using the opener and keep people clear. When you request help, say the home can't be secured or a car is trapped. Our emergency garage door repair page walks through safe first steps.
Do you do the garage door repair yourselves?
No. We're a matching service, not a contractor. We connect you with up to 5 independent, licensed and insured garage door companies that serve your area. The company you hire does the work, sets its own prices and stands behind its own warranty. You deal with them directly, and we recommend confirming their license with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors before work begins.
Can I get same-day garage door repair?
Sometimes, but we can't promise it. Timing depends entirely on the matched companies and their schedules, and some companies may be booked. Mention in the form if your car is trapped or your home can't be secured, so the companies know the request is urgent and can tell you honestly when it can come.
Will I get a lot of calls?
Up to 5 garage door companies that serve your ZIP code may call, text or email you about your request. With an urgent repair, that can mean several calls close together. Some areas have fewer participating companies. Tell any company you don't want to hear from to stop contacting you, and reply STOP to any text to opt out.
How do I know which garage door service I need?
Match the symptom. A loud bang and a door that won't lift usually means a broken spring. A door that reverses before closing usually means the safety sensors. A crooked door or a hanging cable means off-track or cable repair, and grinding or squealing usually calls for a tune-up. Not sure? Choose "Not sure yet" on the form and the pro will diagnose it.
How do I know the company is licensed?
We only send requests to companies that give us an active Arizona ROC license number and proof of liability insurance. You should still check for yourself. The Arizona Registrar of Contractors has a free online license lookup where you can confirm the license is active and see any complaints. Ask the company for its license number when it contacts you.
What garage door problems can you help with?
Broken torsion and extension springs, opener repair and new opener installs, doors off track, snapped or frayed cables, worn rollers, noisy or sticking doors, weatherstripping, and full new garage door installation. If you're not sure what's wrong, choose "Not sure yet" on the form and describe what the door is doing. The pro can diagnose it.
Do you serve areas outside the Phoenix metro?
Not yet. Garage Door Repair Connect is launching in the Phoenix metro first, including Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Goodyear, Buckeye, Queen Creek and San Tan Valley. We plan to expand to more cities over time. If you're nearby but outside these cities, you're welcome to submit a request and we'll try to find a match.
Can I get emergency garage door repair at night or on weekends?
It depends on the company. Some garage door companies take urgent calls after hours and some don't, and after-hours visits often cost more. A request sent at night or on a weekend may not be seen until the matched companies' next business day. If the door is stuck open or a car is trapped, say so in your request so the companies can decide whether to come sooner.
